August Reset: Learning to Rest Before I'm Running on Empty

Savannah Chrisley

Written by Savannah Chrisley

So it's the second week of August, and if you're anything like me, you're standing in the middle of that weird in-between where summer isn't quite over but everybody's already talking about back-to-school. Chloe's got her supply list. Grayson's pretending he's too grown to care but keeps asking me what he's wearing the first day. And me? I'm sitting here at my kitchen table with my third cup of coffee going... when did I last actually stop?

Because here's the truth. I've spent most of this year in go-mode. Building GoodGirlRx. Recording the podcast. Being mom, being sister, being the person everybody calls when the sky's falling. And I love it. I do. But somewhere in there I forgot that I'm not a machine. I'm a woman who's been through a whole lot, and my body keeps a scorecard even when my calendar doesn't.

Y'all know I've been open about my endometriosis, about the weight that came and went and came back, about the days I've looked in the mirror and not recognized the girl staring back. Well, this summer my body started sending me those little signals again. The exhaustion that no amount of coffee fixes. The short fuse. The lying awake at 2am with my brain running laps. And instead of pushing through like I used to... I actually paused.

Rest Isn't a Reward

I grew up believing you earn your rest. You work, you grind, you sacrifice, and maybe if you've done enough, you get to sit down. But I've been unlearning that lie in therapy this year. Rest isn't a prize you win at the end of being productive. Rest is what keeps you able to be productive. It's medicine. It's maintenance. It's holy, honestly.

“You can't pour from an empty cup, and you sure can't parent, build, or heal from one either.”
— Savannah

So this month I'm doing something different. I'm building an August reset. Not some dramatic overhaul, just small honest choices. I'm going to bed earlier. I'm walking in the mornings before it gets Nashville-hot. I'm being consistent with the things that actually make me feel like myself again, like my B12 shots when the tiredness gets heavy. Little things, but they add up. If your energy's been in the gutter too, that's one of the simplest places to start (B12 here).

And I'll be real with you about the body stuff too, because I always am. I've stayed steady this year with my GLP-1 journey, and what shifted everything wasn't just the number on the scale. It was finally treating my health like it was worth showing up for. Not out of hate for my body. Out of respect for it. That's the whole difference. If you've been sitting on the fence about starting, feeling like maybe you don't deserve to invest in yourself yet, please hear me... you do. You don't have to hit rock bottom first (you can start here).

Note

A little note

If you're reading this and you've been running on fumes for months, this is your permission slip to rest. Not next week. Not once the to-do list is done. Now. It'll still be there tomorrow, I promise.

The thing about being the strong one is that everybody assumes you're fine. And I've worn that mask a long time. But the strongest thing I've done this year isn't building a company or holding my family together through hard seasons. It's learning to say I need a minute. To let the people I love take care of me for once. To sit on my porch swing and just... be. No agenda. No guilt.

  • Going to bed an hour earlier, even when my brain says there's more to do.
  • Morning walks before the heat, phone left inside.
  • Saying no to one thing a week that drains me.
  • Letting Chloe and Grayson see me rest, so they learn it's normal.
  • Choosing grace over guilt when I fall off. Every single time.

So if you take one thing from me this Saturday, let it be this. You are allowed to slow down before you break. You don't have to prove your worth by how tired you are. This season, wherever you are, I hope you give yourself the same grace I'm learning to give myself. We're in this together, always. xo, Savannah
