The Middle of August, and I'm Finally Learning to Slow Down

Savannah Chrisley

Written by Savannah Chrisley

Published August 15, 2026

Y'all, it's the middle of August and I don't know about you, but I feel like this whole summer just ran right past me. One minute we were planning Chloe's summer, the next minute I'm sitting here realizing school's about to start back and I never actually... stopped. Not once.

And I have to be honest with you, because that's the whole point of these little Saturday talks. I've been running on empty. Not in a dramatic way. In a quiet way. The kind where you wake up already tired and you push through anyway because that's what you've always done.

Between GoodGirlRx, the podcast, being a mom to Chloe and Grayson, everything with my family... I've gotten really good at showing up for everybody but myself. And I think a lot of women reading this know exactly what I mean. We carry so much. We convince ourselves that if we stop, it all falls apart.

Rest Is Not the Same as Quitting

I had this moment a couple weeks ago. I was so overwhelmed I just sat in my car in the driveway and cried. Not because anything terrible happened. Just because I was depleted. And in that moment I heard this little voice, and I believe it was God, saying: you don't have to earn rest, baby girl. It's already yours.

“Resting isn't giving up on your life. Sometimes it's the only way to actually get it back.”

This is my new favorite spot. Coffee, quiet, and no agenda.

So I started doing small things. I put my phone in another room for an hour at night. I stopped answering emails the second they came in. I let Chloe pick a movie and I actually watched it instead of scrolling through work the whole time. And you know what? The world kept spinning. GoodGirlRx didn't burn down. My kids didn't love me less. Turns out I was the only one holding myself to that impossible standard.

I've also been leaning back into my own wellness, because I preach this to everybody else and then forget to do it myself. Getting back on my B12 has genuinely helped my energy this month, and I've been staying consistent with the things that make me feel like me again. If you've been running on fumes too, I put together how I do it over at our B12 visit. Small things add up, I promise.

And listen, the body stuff is real too. After everything I've been through with my hormones and my endometriosis, I've learned that when I'm this exhausted, my body holds onto it. My weight, my mood, my sleep... it all connects. That's honestly why I built our weight loss program the way I did, because I wanted women to feel supported, not shamed. Never shamed.

Note

A little note

If you're reading this and you feel guilty for wanting rest... this is your sign that you're allowed. You don't have to hit a breaking point first. Start today.

Here are the small things that saved my sanity this month, in case you need somewhere to start:

  • Phone in another room for one hour every evening
  • Saying no to one thing a week that drains me
  • Ten minutes outside in the morning before anyone needs me
  • Actually finishing my water bottle (revolutionary, I know)
  • Letting my kids see me rest, so they learn it's okay too

As we close out this summer, I just want to remind you of something I'm still learning myself: you are not a machine. You're a whole human being with a heart that gets tired. Give yourself the grace you'd give your best friend. Slow down. Breathe. The people who love you would rather have you whole than have you exhausted and impressive.

I'm rooting for you, always. Take care of yourself this week, y'all. With love, Savannah xo
