Y'all, I've been staring at my calendar all week and I cannot believe we're already here. November. The leaves are doing their thing, the candles are lit, and Chloe already asked me twice if we can start decorating for Christmas. (The answer was no. Then it was... maybe. She's very persuasive.)
But I wanted to sit down and be real with you today, because this time of year hits different for me. The holidays used to send me into a spiral. The food. The pictures. The pressure to have everything look perfect when, behind the scenes, I was barely holding it together.
If you've followed me for a while, you know I've been through it with my body. The endometriosis. The weight that came on fast — I gained 40 lbs in like three months at one point and felt like a stranger in my own skin. The hormones that made me feel crazy. So when November rolls around and everybody's gathered around a table full of food, I used to feel this knot in my stomach that had nothing to do with hunger.
This season, I'm choosing grace. Over myself, first. I've done so much work on my health — real work, the kind that happens in therapy and in doctor's offices and in quiet mornings when I'm just trying to show up for Grayson and Chloe. And part of that work has been getting my hormones and my body supported in a way that actually feels sustainable. Not punishing. Not extreme. Just... honest care.
Some of that has been the GLP-1 journey I've talked about before, and y'all know I built Good Girl Rx partly because I was so tired of women feeling ashamed about getting help. There's no shame in it. None. And lately I've been leaning on my B12 too, because this time of year drains me and I need all the energy I can get to keep up with a 13-year-old and a growing boy who eats like a linebacker.
But here's the thing I keep coming back to. The table doesn't have to be perfect. The pie can be a little lopsided. I can wear the jeans that fit THIS body, not the body I had three years ago. I can have the second helping of my mama's dressing and not spiral about it for a week. That's freedom, and it took me a long time to get here.
“I spent years trying to earn my seat at the table. Turns out it was always mine. I just had to sit down.”
I think about my mom a lot this time of year. Everything our family has walked through together... it taught me that the people around the table matter so much more than how the table looks. I used to miss that. I was so busy performing wellness that I forgot to actually BE well. To be present. To laugh too loud and let Chloe steal bites off my plate.
So if you're heading into this season dreading it — dreading the comments from relatives, dreading the mirror, dreading the food — I want you to hear me. You are allowed to protect your peace. You are allowed to get support for your health without apologizing for it. You are allowed to show up exactly as you are today and call it enough. Because it is. You are.
This year, I'm not chasing perfect. I'm chasing present. I'm chasing the version of me who feels good in her own skin and doesn't need the picture to prove it. That's the gift I'm giving myself, and I hope you'll give it to yourself too.
Pour the coffee. Light the candle. Hug the people you love a little tighter. And give yourself the grace you so freely give everybody else. With love, Savannah.
If you're ready to get real support for your health — the kind that feels like care, not punishment — our team at Good Girl Rx is here when you are.
