Why September Feels Like My Real New Year

Savannah Chrisley

Written by Savannah Chrisley

Published September 12, 2026

Y'all, I don't know who decided January was the month for fresh starts, but I want to have a conversation with them. Because September? This is my reset. The kids are back in school, the mornings are finally starting to cool off here in Nashville, and something about that first sweater-weather breeze makes me want to get my whole life together.

There's a calm that comes back once the routine kicks in. Chloe's off to school with her backpack that's honestly bigger than she is, Grayson's got his own world happening, and I get this little pocket of quiet in the morning that I forgot how much I needed. And in that quiet, I finally have space to check in with myself. Not the version of me who's performing for everybody. The real one.

My favorite ten minutes of the whole day.

And I'll be honest with you the way I always am. This year has taught me so much about my body. Between the endometriosis stuff and my hormones being all over the place, I've had to learn that healing is not a straight line. Some months I feel like myself. Some months I gain weight I didn't ask for and cry in the bathroom about it. Both are allowed to be true.

I stopped waiting to feel ready

For a long time I kept telling myself I'd take care of me after. After the season aired. After the kids were settled. After I felt more put together. But there is no after, y'all. There's just now, and now is exactly where God keeps meeting me. So this September I stopped waiting to feel ready and just started.

For me that looked like getting consistent again — my walks, my water, my supplements that I actually feel a difference with. A little B12 has honestly been a game changer for my energy on the days I'm dragging. And staying on track with my weight loss support has helped me stop fighting my own body and start working with it. Building GoodGirlRx came from this exact place — I wanted the thing I needed when nobody was handing it to me.

“You don't have to earn rest, and you don't have to hate your body into changing. I learned both of those the hard way.”
— Savannah

I think a lot of us carry this belief that we have to punish ourselves into being better. Skip the meal. Hate the reflection. Wait until we've suffered enough to deserve good things. And I'm just here to tell you — as somebody who's said out loud that I gained 40 pounds in three months — that shame has never once made me healthier. Grace did. Every single time.

So here's what I'm carrying into this new season, and maybe you can borrow it too:

  • Check in with yourself before you check your phone.
  • Move your body because you love it, not because you're mad at it.
  • Let the people who love you actually help you.
  • Stop calling rest 'lazy' — it's medicine.
  • Say the thankful things out loud, even the small ones.

Note

A little note

If you're in a hard middle right now — the messy, unglamorous part of healing — I promise you're not behind. You're right on time. Be gentle with her.

I look at Chloe and Grayson and I want them to grow up watching a woman who's kind to herself. Not perfect. Not filtered. Just honest and trying and rooted in faith. Because they're gonna learn how to treat themselves by watching how I treat me. That'll straighten your priorities out real quick, let me tell ya.

So happy September, y'all. My real new year. Let's do this soft, and slow, and full of grace. Come reset with me. With love, Savannah
