The 5-minute injection-day checklist

The 5-minute injection-day checklist

Injection day gets easier with a repeatable routine. Here's the 5-minute version my patients love.

  1. Wash hands. 20 seconds, soap, warm water.
  2. Gather your supplies — medication, alcohol swab, needle, sharps container.
  3. Let the medication come to room temperature for ~15 min if refrigerated (start this before you sit down).
  4. Choose a site — rotate between abdomen and thigh. Avoid bruises or irritation.
  5. Clean the site with alcohol, let it dry fully.
  6. Inject at the angle your provider taught you. Slow and steady.
  7. Dispose the needle in the sharps container immediately.
  8. Log the dose in your notes or Patient Portal.

Tip

Rotate, rotate, rotate

The number-one reason people get site irritation is using the same spot repeatedly. Move it every time — a simple clockwise rotation works.

Questions about your injection routine?

Your provider is a message away in the Patient Portal.
