The August Reset: Learning to Slow Down Before Fall

Savannah Chrisley

Written by Savannah Chrisley

Published August 22, 2026

Y'all, I don't know how it's already the end of August. I feel like I blinked and summer was gone. Chloe's back-to-school shopping is done, Grayson's off doing his thing, and I'm sitting here with my iced coffee realizing I've been running on fumes for weeks.

There's this thing that happens to me every single August. The heat drains me. My body feels heavier. My hormones feel like they're doing their own thing without asking my permission first. And instead of listening to what my body's telling me, I usually just push harder. More work. More commitments. More trying to be everything for everybody.

But this year I'm doing something different. This year I'm actually slowing down before fall hits. And let me tell you... it's not as easy as it sounds when you're a recovering people-pleaser who thinks rest is a reward you have to earn.

My body has been talking. I finally started listening.

Between the endometriosis and everything my hormones have put me through, I've learned the hard way that ignoring my body doesn't make me strong. It makes me sick. The bloating, the fatigue, the days where I just wanted to crawl back into bed... my body was screaming at me and I kept telling it to be quiet.

So I made some changes. I got back into a real routine with my wellness stuff, and honestly, my B12 shots have been such a small thing that's made a big difference in my energy through this end-of-summer slump. I'm also leaning back into my NAD+ because when I feel run-down, that's what helps me come back to myself. It's not magic, y'all. It's just me finally choosing to take care of the woman in the mirror instead of everybody else first.

I've been journaling more too. Praying more. Some mornings I just sit on the porch before anybody's up and I let myself feel whatever I'm feeling. No fixing it. No performing it for a camera or a caption. Just me and God and the quiet. That's been the biggest reset of all.

“Rest isn't quitting. Rest is how you get to keep going without breaking.”
— Savannah

I used to think slowing down meant I was falling behind. That if I wasn't grinding every second, I was letting people down... letting my family down, letting GoodGirlRx down, letting myself down. But that's not the truth. The truth is I can't pour from an empty cup, and I've been running on empty for way too long.

Here's what August has been teaching me, and maybe you need to hear it too:

  • Your body isn't the enemy. It's trying to protect you.
  • Saying no to something good is sometimes how you say yes to yourself.
  • Grace isn't earned. You already have it.
  • Rest before fall means you actually get to enjoy fall.

Note

A little note

If your energy has been rock bottom this summer too, don't just white-knuckle through it. Sometimes a little support goes a long way. Be gentle with yourself, okay?

So as we roll into September, I'm going in soft. I'm going in rested. I'm going in with boundaries I actually plan to keep. And if you've been dragging yourself through these last hot weeks feeling like a shell of yourself... this is your permission to slow down too. You don't have to fall apart to deserve a break.

Take the nap. Skip the thing. Drink the water. Say the prayer. Fall will still be there when you're ready for it, and you'll meet it as a whole person instead of an exhausted one. I love y'all so much. With love, Savannah.
